Baby sign language…not all that it’s cracked up to be (in my humble opinion).
So we have been working with Finn on baby sign language since he was 6-7 months old. We worked solely on the milk sign for many months and it is the only one he does. However, he does it when he wants milk (sometimes), when he wants to be picked up, wants a toy, wants food, wants juice, wants down, says hello, says goodbye, you get the point.
We introduced it exactly as we were supposed to. Before we gave him the milk we showed him the sign and said the word. And while he was drinking we showed him the sign a couple of times, repeating the word. WE. DID. THIS. EVERY. TIME. Every stinking time and he can’t distinguish between the sign for milk or any other sign we have introduced to him.
I blame Josh because whenever he would show him the sign he would say “milk, milk, lemonade.” I mean it confused the little guy, fer sure! He has never used any of the other signs that I have shown him (yes, no, more, to name a few).
Baby signing worked for Jen and Adam, but they must have some freaky kind of genius kids because I swear Finn is about average and he just can’t get it. Can I order some genius in my next baby?
