I was teased for as long as I can remember for having freckles. I was told that it was dog poop (yes, I understand it doesn’t make sense). People would ask me how many I had.
Too many to count, thanks for asking.
My mom told me that they were kisses from angels. I only made the mistake of telling kids that once. I tried to cover them up with make-up and even tanning lotion (I might not have been the brightest crayon in the box).
Last week we had a talent show try-outs for 2nd grade. You want to be endlessly entertained, go to an elementary school talent show. You will laugh until you cry. The best one I’ve ever seen is the first year I taught a girl sat down, placed her feet behind her head (have a mental picture?) and sang “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”
With time, I grew to love my freckles, I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I would pray at night, when I was young, to not give pass this burden to my own children. Last week a girl sang this song as a try-out for the talent show. I had never heard it before. This is a great song for all those that have freckles. This is for my mom for trying to make me proud of my freckles. This is for Finn if he ever has freckles. Don’t ever tell them that they are angel kisses (even though they are).
