And I managed not to kill anyone.

Spoiler alert…sorry, but I had to start out with the fact that I didn’t kill anyone.

I volunteered to do deserts for Thanksgiving.

Yes, I’m aware it’s almost Christmas.  I’m behind, so what?!?!  I would have skipped this story all together except for that I took photographic evidence of baking.

I know I talk a big game about not being able to cook and bake.  It’s not so much that I CAN’T that I don’t LIKE it.  Maybe I’m simplifying, but it seems to me basic cooking and baking is not rocket science, it’s basic reading comprehension.

And I can comprehend the shit out of anything I read.

Disclaimer: don’t get your panties in a bunch, I know cooking CAN be an art form and is not for the inexperienced.  However, the kind of cooking/baking I’m talking about is feed your family so they don’t starve and throw together some desserts.

I baked a pumpkin pie and my banana cake for dessert.  The banana cake ended up not as moist as I would have liked, but both were edible and didn’t give anyone the gift of food poisoning.  All in all, I call that a win!

Disclaimer #2: I had 2 assistants, but I did the cooking/baking.  They followed directions.  It may seem from the pictures that they were cooking and I was taking pictures.  However, let me assure you that was NOT the case.

Here is my adventure cooking dessert for Thanksgiving…

I am sure everything was delicious! And I woud have loved to taste both dishes! (Mmmhhh… now I just want to have banana cake… will try to find one to buy in the afternoon! I like to bake, but I’m lazy to do it today, and just for me… no, better to buy it!)

I baked pumpkin pie once… only I forgot to put the pumpkin in. Lucky I realised before it started actually cooking.

I’m with Jen. I’ve never had banana cake but it looks good. I used to make banana nut bread a lot but haven’t in years. Maybe I should go back to that. But, I guess like you, I CAN cook… I just don’t really enjoy it.

did you make the pie crust from scratch too?? :)
    Looks delicious!
I used to claim I couldn’t cook. Which people disbelieved because I bake like a fiend. But I bake things that are forgiving, and I find cooking nondesserts less forgiving. . . But it turns out that if I *plan* to cook, it’s not so bad. I still prefer baking, though. I love the smell. And I love how happy people are when I bring them homemade baked goods :)
