A very tardy Christmas.

So our lives we a bit crazy so I was MIA from here.  Don’t worry, I know you missed me, you don’t have to make a big deal about it.

Although officially we’re writing 2012 on our checks (well not me, it usually takes me until June) here’s my Christmas video.  It was a great Christmas, the only thing that could have possibly been better is if my sister was with us.  We all missed her terribly, but we always carry her in our hearts.

Josh’s mom asked me if (after 8 years) I was used to the chaos of Christmas at the Hanke’s.  It’s true, it was very different than when I was growing up as we always celebrated with just our immediate family.  To go from Christmas with 3 to a Christmas with 11+ is starkly different.

However, not only am I used to it, but I would be lost without it.  Christmas is synonymous with our nieces and nephews and Josh’s family.  I’ve heard that some people have problems with in-laws.  This is beyond my comprehension as I married Josh for love, but got a twofer because I also fell in love with his family.

You would be on mission impossible to find more joy than what resides in the Hanke house as we celebrate Christmas and the other 364 days a year.

I get invited to a lot of family christmas suppers. . but I always stick to ‘no’ and hang out at home alone. I feel awkward in large family settings, and especially when I’m on call. . . if my phone rings and I have to leave the table, when it’s not my family I feel very conspicuous!!!
But I do spend xmas eve with my one friends family, very low key kind of christmas morning, just the mum and the kids and me :)

(I work christmas, being the only vet without kids, to finangle the rest of the week off to go visit my family in Ontario :) )

I’m glad you have such a wonderfully full christmas, though, because you do seem to love it so :) I think that’s the key to the holidays – knowing what makes you, and the people you love, the happiest :)
