It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

After Christmas we were lucky enough to be able to spend a day with my dear friend Megan.  A friend like Megan doesn’t come along every day and I know I’m lucky to call her a friend.  One of my favorite things is when I get to make another friend that makes my friend happy.

Hadley is that person for Megan.  I heard this the other day and this has been Megan for me for the past 15 years.

This guy’s walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can’t get out.

A doctor passes by, and the guy shouts up, “Hey, you, can you help me out?” The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on.

Then a priest comes along, and the guy shouts up, “Father, I’m down in this hole. Can you help me out?” The priest writes a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on.

Then a friend walks by. “Hey, Joe, it’s me. Can you help me out?” And the friend jumps in the hole.

Our guy says, “Are you nuts? Now we’re both down here.”

The friend says, “Yeah, but I’ve been down here before – and I know the way out.”

Kate… dear dear Kate… that was exactly what I needed today. I was “defeated” by something today, and this story helped me so much! You see? A friend (you!) helped me out of the hole. Thank you Kate! Once more! (I didn’t quote ML King yesterday… sorry… but will use this one, OK?)
