When I have to remind myself I don’t believe in the death penalty.

There are some times when I believe our justice system actually works as it is intended.  I was proud that the evil Sandusky was sentenced to nearly half a century in prison.  However, at the same time, I had a hard time remembering why I don’t believe in capital punishment.

I will have to find comfort in the fact that he will spend the remainder of his days in solitary confinement even though it is not anywhere close to the torture he put countless boys (including one he adopted) through.

And that is all I want to say about that.

Our system is about justice, not revenge. The death penalty is all about revenge. It never has and never will serve as a deterrent.

I think justice was done in this case. I doubt Sandusky will have any easy time in prison, and I’m ok with that.

There is a good reason to not believe in capital punishment. Sometimes, years after the fact, a person is proven innocent. You can’t let them out of prison if they’re dead.

I couldn’t agree with you more. However, there are such instances (as in this case) where there is about .25% chance that he’s innocent. And even that’s being generous. On the other hand, I was thinking it’s going to be worse for him to sit in a cell for the rest of his life than the “easy” way out.
